Product Information

Boston Equalens contacts are rigid gas-permeable (RGP) lenses that offer superior visual acuity and durability. Each Boston Equalens lens is custom-made to fit your eye perfectly and meet the needs of your prescription accurately.

Features & Benefits

Boston Equalens contacts are manufactured from an RGP plastic material. They are intended for daily wear, but they can also be worn for extended periods upon the advice of an eye care professional (ECP).

As RGP lenses, Boston Equalens contacts are highly durable and can resist wear and tear from daily handling. When properly cleaned and cared for, Boston Equalens contacts can last up to a year before they need to be replaced with a fresh pair.

Boston Equalens contacts are also naturally resistant to protein buildup because they contain less than 1% water. They are also breathable, meaning they allow oxygen to reach the eye — oxygen our eyes need to stay white and healthy.

Because they are made-to-order, Boston Equalens contacts can address nearly every refractive error, including nearsightedness, farsightedness, presbyopia, and astigmatism. To correct these visual impairments, Boston Equalens contacts come in the following designs: spherical, aspherical, toric, and bifocal/multifocal.

Boston Equalens contacts also offer protection against UV radiation. Additionally, these contacts are available in blue and electric blue for easier handling during insertion and removal. The tint won’t change your natural eye color. If you don’t want a visibility tint, you can get your Boston Equalens contacts in clear.

Who They’re For

Boston Equalens contacts are ideal for people who prefer a highly durable and convenient lens. They’re also a great choice for those with refractive errors for whom soft contacts don't produce the desired visual acuity as well as those who don’t mind going through a period of adaptation to contact lens wear.

Additionally, Boston Equalens contacts are suitable for those who need vision correction due to irregular corneal conditions, such as keratoconus and those resulting from unsuccessful LASIK surgery.

How to Put In Boston Equalens

Boston Equalens contacts are RGP lenses and as such, you should follow the standard procedure for this type of lens. Wash and dry your hands before touching the contacts or your eyes. Scoop your first lens out of the case with the index finger of your dominant hand and rinse it with a cleaning solution that’s specially formulated for RGP lenses. Inspect the lens for any tears or debris. Hold your eyelid open, stare straight ahead, and gently place the lens on your eye. Blink a few times to center the lens. Repeat for the other lens. Don’t panic if the lens doesn’t feel comfortable immediately. RGP lenses typically take longer to get used to wearing than soft lenses, but regular use is key for comfort.

Boston Equalens FAQs

How many boxes of Boston Equalens do I need to buy to last 6 months, or 12 months?

You need 1 box(es) of Boston Equalens contacts to last you for 6 months. In order to last you for 12 months, you'll need 1 box(es). These amounts pertain to a single eye, so to cover both eyes, double these amounts.

Can you take a nap in Boston Equalens contacts?

No, you cannot nap in Boston Equalens lenses. As Boston Equalens are not approved for overnight wear (a full night's sleep), napping in them for a short period of time is not advisable either, and it can lead to eye-health complications. Napping for any length of time with contacts not designed for such an environment is risky. Choose a lens that is approved for overnight wear and seek guidance from your ECP if this is a requirement for you.

Is ordering Boston Equalens contact lenses online safe?

Yes, all contact lenses, including Boston Equalens ordered from Lens.com are FDA-approved, genuine lenses manufactured by top contact lens brands such as Bausch + Lomb and Alcon, and backed by a money-back guarantee. Order and fulfillment processes adhere to mandates set by US federal law, including the requirement to verify valid prescriptions, without exception. We go above and beyond, by making the experience efficient, easy, and pleasant with 24/7/365 customer service and a money-back guarantee.

How long does it take to adjust to wearing Boston Equalens contacts?

If you're wearing Boston Equalens for the first time, it can take several days to a couple of weeks for you to adjust to wearing them on a daily basis. Contacts vary from brand to brand in terms of their shape, material, breathability, wetting agents used, and other factors, thus requiring an adjustment period. Rigid/hard lenses can sometimes take longer to adjust to, whereas most contacts in use today employ a soft form of silicone that is typically easy to adjust to.

What if I don't have my prescription? Can I still order Boston Equalens contacts?

Yes, you can still order Boston Equalens if you don't have a hard copy of your RX/prescription on hand. As long as you have a valid contact lens prescription (which will be on file at your ECP's) you can still place an order with us at Lens.com. Choose your lens, provide us with the contact info of your ECP and we'll do the rest. If your ECP is unable to respond to our request for the info needed in a timely manner, your lenses will automatically be shipped out to you. This is the process put in place by the FTC to ensure your rights as a consumer.

Can I use my eyeglass prescription for Boston Equalens contact lenses?

Unfortunately no, you can't use your eyeglass prescription for Boston Equalens lenses. Your eyeglass prescription only has the power part of the contact lens prescription. In addition to the power, the proper base curve (BC) and diameter (DIA) are needed to order contact lenses. Contact lenses come in different sizes and must be fit to your eye by an Optometrist or Ophthalmologist. As a replacement center, we can only sell you contact lenses that you are already wearing successfully. So ultimately eyeglass prescriptions are not the same as a prescription for Boston Equalens contacts. See an ECP/optometrist if you're looking for a contact lens prescription and fitting as a first-time-wearer.

Is Boston Equalens contact lens FDA-approved?

Yes, Boston Equalens is FDA-approved. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration regulates all contact lenses as prescription medical devices and thus must go through an approval process, after which they can be legally sold in the US (if approved). Lens.com sells only FDA-approved contact lenses. From lenses to address near, farsightedness, astigmatism, and even cosmetic lenses, our inventory consists only of FDA-approved contacts.

Are Boston Equalens sold on Lens.com authentic? Why is it cheaper than other vendors?

Yes, all contacts sold on Lens.com are 100% authentic, including Boston Equalens and come with a money-back guarantee. Lens.com is able to sell contacts extremely competitively by buying and selling in volume, by smartly managing costs and overhead, and by accepting smaller but fairer profit margins versus other e-tailers and ECPs in exchange for building a satisfied customer base. We stand by our product and offer 24/7 live-customer support.

How old do you have to be to wear Boston Equalens contact lenses?

Like most contacts, including Boston Equalens, they can be worn by teens and potentially pre-teens as well, per the direction of an ECP. In general, there is no fixed minimum age for wearing contacts, as it's a judgment call based on lifestyle habits, budget, and of course your ECP's guidance. Contacts do require care and consistency in usage and maintenance/cleaning and these are the lifestyle factors you should consider when thinking about contacts for a child.

This is required by US federal law. Prescription verification is easy at Lens.com. We have several methods some of which avoid the need to contact your OD.

Can I be allergic to Boston Equalens contacts?

Contacts, like Boston Equalens are made of hypoallergenic materials, meaning the contacts themselves don't usually cause an allergic reaction. In most cases, what causes an allergic reaction is a buildup of contaminants on the contacts. If you experience redness, watering, and other symptoms of a possible allergic reaction, remove your contacts immediately and consult your ECP.

Are online Boston Equalens contact lenses the same as from your eye doctor?

Yes, generally, Boston Equalens contacts purchased online are the exact same lenses you purchase in a store or a doctor's office. How to tell if my Boston Equalens contacts are inside out?

You will know Boston Equalens contacts are inside-out if they feel uncomfortable in your eye. An inside-out contact lens will also move too much when you blink, and they may even pop out. Where can I buy Boston Equalens contacts near me?

Boston Equalens contacts are typically available to purchase at your nearest brick-and-mortar eyewear store or ECP's office. However, the lowest prices and largest inventory of these lenses can be found online, such as at Lens.com, where greater volumes and lower overhead can translate into significant savings over store-bought contacts.

Can Boston Equalens contacts expire?

Like all contact lenses, Boston Equalens lenses do expire. The expiration date will be stamped on the box itself or on the aluminum fold of the blister pack in either a YYYY-MM or YYYY-MM-DD format. Typically, the expiration date for contacts is several years after the date of packaging.

What is the water content of Boston Equalens?

Boston Equalens contacts have a water content of 0%. The higher the water content in a contact lens, the more oxygen reaches the cornea during lens wear. There are other factors at play however so water content alone isn't enough of a factor to judge a lens' performance for a given person. High water content lenses can feel comfortable initially but may dry out over time, but this is not always the case. So it's good to know about the water content of a lens, but it's not everything. Consult your ECP to find out the best options for you.

How should I store my Boston Equalens contact lenses?

Daily disposable contacts cannot be stored and must be discarded at the end of each day. Even if you wear them for only a few hours one day, you still need to discard them after that use and wear a fresh pair of contacts the next day.

You may keep weekly contacts in multi-purpose contact solution in a tightly closed contact lens case for up to 2 weeks.

For monthly replacement lenses you may store them in contact solution in a tightly closed contact lens case for up to 30 days.

Is Boston Equalens discontinued?

No, Boston Equalens contacts have not been discontinued by Polymer Technology. They continue to be produced, marketed, and sold on Lens.com. Typically, if a contact lens ceases to be produced by the manufacturer, we will indicate it clearly on our product page as being a discontinued lens and it won't be an option to purchase them.

Do I need a prescription, or a copy of my prescription in order to buy Boston Equalens?

Yes, you do require a valid prescription in order to buy Boston Equalens or any contacts in the United States, per Federal Law. However, at Lens.com having a copy of your prescription in your possession is not required to place an order (though be aware it's something that is owed to you by your ECP once you complete an eye examination so that you can choose where to purchase your contacts). If you don't have a copy in your possession, Lens.com representatives will help verifying your prescription by calling your ECP for you. Provide us with the basic information, sit back, and relax.

Best lens ever

I have been wearing Boston Equalens for many many years with no problems. They are the most comfortable lens and I wear them all day, every day. A couple of times during emergency travel I have worn the lens well into the night with no problem. Before Equalens, the other lens I tried were either too dry, too thin and sharp, or uncomfortable to wear after a few hours. Each year the doctor's office orders a different type of lens no matter what I ask for, but so far I have none of them have been worked, so I go directly to lens.com to order my favorite Boston Equalens. Best lens ever.
